Isaac Hayes scores Shaft film Caf Reggio Shaft Theme 1971
Isaac Hayes was born in Covington Tennessee in 1942 the secondborn child of Isaac Sr and Eula Hayes but after their deaths was raised by his grandparents Mr and Mrs Willie Wade Sr The child of a poor family he grew up picking cotton in Covington He dropped out of high school only to be encouraged later by his former high school teachers at Manassas High to get his diploma He earned his diploma at the age of 21 He began singing at the age of five at his local church and soon after he taught himself how to play the piano electronic organ flute and saxophone In early 1971 Hayes composed music for the soundtrack of the blaxploitation film Shaft in the movie he also appeared in a cameo role as the bartender of No Name Bar The title theme with its wahwah guitar and multilayered symphonic arrangement would become a worldwide hit single and spent two weeks at number one in the Billboard Hot 100 in November The remainder of the album was mostly instrumentals covering big beat jazz bluesy funk and hard Staxstyled soul The other two vocal songs the social commentary Soulville and the nineteenminute jam Do Your Thing would be edited down to hit singles Hayes won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the Theme from Shaft and was nominated for Best Original Dramatic Score for the films score More on Shaft the movie Shaft is a 1971 American film directed by Gordon Parks and released by MetroGoldwynMayer An action film with elements of film noir Shaft tells the story of a black private detective John Shaft who travels through Harlem and to the Italian mob in order to find the missing daughter of a black mobster It stars Richard Roundtree as Shaft Moses Gunn as Bumpy Jonas Charles Cioffi as Lt Vic Androzzi Christopher St John as Ben Buford and Gwenn Mitchell and Lawrence Pressman in smaller roles The movie was adapted by Ernest Tidyman and John D F Black from Tidymans 1971 novel of the same name The movie is widely considered a prime example of the blaxploitation genre The Shaft soundtrack album recorded by Isaac Hayes was also a success with the Theme from Shaft winning the 1972 Academy Award for Best Original Song In 2000 Shaft was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally historically or aesthetically significant Tagline The mob wanted Harlem back They got Shaftup to here Production for Shaft the movie According to Melvin Van Peebles the original production was of a white detective story but after the success of Sweet Sweetbacks Baadasssss Song 1971 the original script was scrapped in favor of an adaptation of Ernest Tidymans 1970 novel Shaft which focused on an AfricanAmerican detective Tidyman who was white was an editor at The New York Times prior to becoming a novelist He sold the movie rights to Shaft by showing the galley proofs to the studio the novel had not yet been published Tidyman was honored by the NAACP for his work on the Shaft movies and books Box office and Academy Awards The film was a surprising and runaway boxoffice success grossing 12 million with a budget of only 1125000 Isaac Hayes won an Academy Award for Best Music Song for Theme from Shaft Hayes was also nominated for Best Music Original Dramatic Score Sequels Two sequels were made Shafts Big Score in 1972 and Shaft in Africa in 1973 These were followed by a series of TV movies starring Roundtree as Shaft on CBS during the 19731974 TV season In 2000 a sequel was made featuring Samuel L Jackson in the title role see Shaft 2000 film Jackson plays the nephew of Richard Roundtrees character Roundtree returns as John Shaft still a private eye trying to get his nephew to join him Similar artists and followers include Booker T the MGs The MarKeys Charles Wright Zapp The Ohio Players Cameo Dazz Band Rufus Thomas Carla Thomas Otis Redding Willie the Mighty Magnificents The Funk Brothers The Meters James Brown George Clinton Chuck Brown The Average White Band Kool the Gang The Salsoul Orchestra Brass Construction Norman Harris Earl Young Ectomorph Ron Baker Aristocrats Cee Knowledge Lefties Soul Connection Arthur Conley The Artist Formerly Known as Prince and the Revolution New Power Generation Earth Wind Fire Funkadelics Parliament Jimi Hendrix Van Halen Stevie Ray Vaughan afros 70s 70s 1970s 1970s Rolling Stones The Beatles Bob Dylan Nirvana disco Percussion BarKays barkays Gordon Parks film scores Theme From Shaft Barry White Curtis Mayfield Gap Band Bill Withers Al Green Marvin Gaye Smokey Robinson Motown Eric B Rakim Caf Reggios R Kelly

READ MORE HERE INFO Bloodsport HD Trailer Worlds Famous Martial Art in History BLOODSPORT 1988 WITH JeanClaude Van Damme The movie 1988 Bloodsport remains one of the best entertaining martial arts movies of its time and is considered a cult classic This movie introduced JeanClaude Van Damme and made him both a star and an International icon to a worldwide audience The movie showcased Van Dammes amazing athletic abilities and his genuine martial art skills At age ten JeanClaude Van Damme of Brussels real name Van Varenberg took Shotokon karate lessons At age 16 he won his first tournament in 46 seconds He won his black belt at age 18 and won the European Professional Karate Associations middleweight championship at age 19 He had a fight record of 16 knockouts to l loss As a kickboxer Van Damme also studied Taekwondo and Mauy Thai Additionally an impressive array of international martial artists and their captivating and at times spectacular fighting styles ranging from Kung Fu to Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai are displayed Part of the mystique of Bloodsport is it is said to be based on the 1975180 real life experiences of Frank Dux an American from California Dux a skilled martial artist claimed to be first Westerner to win the secret underground Martial Arts Competition known as the Kumite In reality Dux maintains he fought and won his Kumite tournament in Jamaica the movie Bloodsport nonetheless takes place in Hong Kong Dux choreographed the fight scenes for the film and provided the basic script for Bloodsport The fight scenes are the main attractions of the movie plot and acting take a back seat As the strong and silent type Van Damme handles his star role well enough but he like Bruce Lee had only marginal English skills Bloodsport tells the story of Frank W Dux Jean Claude Van Damme trained from youth in Ninjutsu by a Japanese master Senzo Tanaka Roy Chiao To honor his mentor Dux leaves for Hong Kong to participate in the Kumite where the worlds best martial artists are secretly and invited every five years The movie unfolds showing the intense preparations for the Kumite by a number of different skilled fighters climbing trees smashing coconuts or breaking large ice blocks and strong boards Duxs past training is highlighted The film skips to Duxs present workout in a military gym where his participation in the Kumite is in doubt when officially prohibited from attending Feigning need for a shower Dux escapes the base and makes his way to Hong Kong meeting fellow American contestant Ray Jackson Donald Gibb and a female American journalist Janice Kent Leah Ayres who is attempting to write about the clandestine illegal event The tournament begins Dux beats all of his opponents including a Syrian fighter Bernard Mariano a Muay Thai kickboxer Paulo Tocha and a formidable Sumo wrestler David Ho advancing to the third and final day of the tournament to face defending Kumite champion Chong Li Bolo Yeung who incredibly was 49 year old at time of filming but looking like 30 Li is the callous villain and when discovering Dux to be the better fighter stoops to throwing salt to blind Dux during the match Unable to see Dux relies on his keen sense to fend off Li and then to resoundingly win The film closes with Dux returning to the United States and screen shows statistics detailing the reallife achievements Frank W Duxs such as having the fastest recorded knock out record The soundtrack composed by Paul Hertzog uses synthesized sounds and classical Asian instrumentation featuring Fight to Survive On My OwnAlone and Steal the Night Van Damme and the 1988 Bloodsport motivated a resurgent interest in the martial arts not seen since the untimely death of Bruce Lee some 15 years earlier in 1973 __________________ Special Note to Youtbubers I would be pleased if 1 you would be interested to read Van Dammes Biography that I cowrote as it appears on wwwfandammenet andor 2 watched me starring in my own video demonstrating a high energy martial art fight Interrogation Room httpyoutubecomwatchvrFl1YJzUZWg Thank you LouisPhilippe Simard of Studio LPS Montreal Canada httpyoutubecomstudiolps Blood Sport High Definition Resolution
